My paintings are an exploration of the human relationship to the natural world. My inspiration comes from the schools of Fantastic Realism and Surrealism and uses archetypal imagery, symbolic language, mythology, dreamscapes, and geometry to weave visual stories of nature. My current work has been fused with my development of an organic farm and ecological restoration project in rural central Iowa, land that my family has farmed for six generations. This current body of work is focused on time and the cycles of nature, Iowa bioregional ecosystems, plants and animals of the prairie, and the human relationship with nature and place. Through this body of work, I want to create a sense of stillness and reflection to connect with a deeper part of ourselves that is intertwined with the earth, the elements, and all life on this planet. Through this connection, I believe we can learn to create harmony with nature, and understand the value of regeneration of our ecosystems as a interconnected whole.
